About Ligue 1
Ligue 1 is France's top division, eighteen clubs playing thirty-four matches a season. Paris Saint-Germain have dominated since the 2011 Qatari takeover, winning ten of twelve titles. But French football's real strength is its academies: the country produces more professional footballers than any other in Europe, exporting talent globally. Marseille remain the only French club to have won the Champions League (1993), and Lyon's seven consecutive titles between 2002 and 2008 remain a record for French football.
