Privacy Policy

Who we are

MatchDay UK (matchdayuk.com) is a UK-based football live score application. For the purposes of UK data protection law, the data controller is MatchDay UK. If you have any questions about how we handle your data, you can reach us at contact@matchdayuk.com.

What data we collect

We collect the minimum amount of data needed to run the service and improve your experience. This includes:

  • IP address — collected by our hosting provider and error monitoring service as part of standard web requests.
  • Device and browser information — such as screen size, operating system, and browser type. This helps us ensure the site works well across different devices.
  • Page views and navigation — which pages you visit and how you move through the site, collected through privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics.
  • Search queries — what you search for within the app, so we can improve search results and understand which teams and leagues are popular.
  • Error reports — if something goes wrong, we automatically collect technical details about the error (such as the page you were on and what browser you were using) to help us fix issues.
  • Account information — if you create an account, we store your email address and any preferences you set (such as favourite teams).

How we use your data

We use the data we collect to:

  • Display live scores, fixtures, standings, and other football data.
  • Monitor and fix errors to keep the service running smoothly.
  • Understand how people use the site so we can make improvements.
  • Provide account features such as saved preferences and favourite teams.
  • Cache content locally on your device using a service worker, so pages load faster and basic features work offline.

Our legal basis for processing

Under UK GDPR, we rely on the following legal bases:

  • Legitimate interest — for analytics, error monitoring, and general site improvements. We have assessed that these activities are necessary to run and improve the service, and that they do not override your rights or freedoms. Our analytics are cookieless and do not track you across websites.
  • Contract performance — for processing data necessary to provide account features you have signed up for.

Cookies and tracking

We use Vercel Analytics, which is a privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics service. It does not use cookies, does not track you across websites, and does not collect personally identifiable information. Because Vercel Analytics is cookieless, we do not need to show you a cookie consent banner for analytics purposes.

If you create an account, a session token is stored in your browser to keep you logged in. This is a strictly necessary cookie and does not require consent under UK law.

Third-party processors

We share data with the following third-party services, each of which acts as a data processor on our behalf:

Vercel

Hosts the website and provides cookieless analytics. Vercel processes page view data and basic device information. Servers are located in the US and Europe.

Sentry

Provides error monitoring. When an error occurs, Sentry receives technical details such as the error message, the page URL, browser type, and IP address. This data is used solely for diagnosing and fixing issues.

Resend

Provides transactional email delivery for account verification and password reset emails. Your email address is shared with Resend solely for the purpose of delivering these emails.

Google

If you sign in using "Continue with Google", your Google account name, email address, and profile picture are shared with us to create your account. We do not access any other Google data. Google's privacy policy applies to data processed on their side.

Cloudflare

We use Cloudflare Turnstile to protect our sign-up form from automated abuse. Turnstile analyses browser signals to determine if a visitor is human. It does not use cookies and does not track you across websites. In most cases, verification happens invisibly with no user interaction.

API-Football (via RapidAPI)

Provides the football data that powers the site (live scores, fixtures, standings, team information). Requests to this API are made from our server, not from your browser, so your personal data is not shared directly with RapidAPI.

International data transfers

Some of our third-party processors (Vercel, Sentry, Resend) are based in the United States. Where data is transferred outside the UK, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, including Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) as approved by the UK Information Commissioner's Office. These safeguards ensure your data receives an equivalent level of protection to that provided under UK GDPR.

Data retention

We retain data for the following periods:

  • Analytics data — aggregated and anonymised, retained indefinitely. No individual user data is stored by Vercel Analytics.
  • Error reports — retained in Sentry for 90 days, after which they are automatically deleted.
  • Account data — retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your data will be removed within 30 days.
  • Service worker cache — stored locally on your device and managed by your browser. You can clear this at any time through your browser settings.

Your rights under UK GDPR

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right of access — you can request a copy of any personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to rectification — you can ask us to correct any inaccurate data we hold about you.
  • Right to erasure — you can ask us to delete your personal data. We will do so unless we have a lawful reason to keep it.
  • Right to data portability — you can request your data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
  • Right to object — you can object to our processing of your data where we rely on legitimate interest as our legal basis.
  • Right to restrict processing — you can ask us to limit how we use your data in certain circumstances.

How to exercise your rights

To exercise any of your rights, email us at contact@matchdayuk.com. We will respond to your request within one month, as required by UK GDPR. There is no fee for making a request, unless the request is clearly unfounded or excessive.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's supervisory authority for data protection:

  • Website: ico.org.uk
  • Telephone: 0303 123 1113

We would appreciate the chance to address your concerns before you contact the ICO, so please reach out to us first if possible.

Children

MatchDay UK is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe we have collected data from a child under 13, please contact us at contact@matchdayuk.com and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will make it clear on the site. We encourage you to check this page periodically. The date at the top of this page shows when the policy was last updated.
