About Premier League
The Premier League is English football's top division, contested by twenty clubs over thirty-eight matches a season. Founded in 1992 when the old First Division broke away from the Football League, it's grown into the most-watched league in the world, for better and worse. The money is enormous, the TV schedules punishing, the drama reliable. Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City have dominated recent title races, with Chelsea and Manchester United historically in the mix. Relegation to the Championship is brutal: three clubs drop each May, and the financial fall is the stuff of boardroom nightmares. Something in the table shifts every weekend from August to May.
