About Aston Villa
Aston Villa play at Villa Park, capacity 42,657, one of English football's great traditional grounds. Founded in 1874, they are a founding member of the Football League and one of only five English clubs to have won the European Cup, beating Bayern Munich 1-0 in Rotterdam in 1982. Seven league titles and seven FA Cups sit in the cabinet, though the decades since have been leaner. The Second City Derby with Birmingham City is one of English football's most hostile fixtures.
Legends
Paul McGrath (1989-1996) was known simply as God to the Villa faithful, playing world-class football on knees that shouldn't have functioned. Peter Withe and Gary Shaw formed the strike partnership that won the league in 1981 and the European Cup in 1982. Jack Grealish, the local lad with shin pads the size of credit cards, dragged Villa from Championship relegation battles to the [[Premier League]] and became their talisman before moving to Manchester City.
